erexthedino replied to your post: You can thank Mr. Hubble for noticing the expansion of the universe, he saw changes in wavelengths from galaxies caused by redshit, calculated the moving of nearby galaxies and ergo expansion! It wasn’t until recently though that we discovered the expansion is actually accelerating, BAM dark energy.

We do see a more of a red shift in distant galaxies! The red shift is basically a cooler way for astronomers to say Doppler Effect. Hubble saw that the farther away something was, the more red shift it has which is called “Hubble’s Constant”.
